Ronald Cottam leads the Living Systems Project of the Department of Electronics and Informatics in the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. The project was set up in 1991 with a 30-year foreseen lifetime, to reach conclusion around the time that Moore's law will finally run down. It focuses on post-uniquely digital computational techniques related to the analog-digital dual-coding of living systems and biological information-processing. A long-term aim is to create conscious, living ICT, initially through the implementation of life-like processes within the constraints of current and near-future technology.
